Training for Carers
As a carer, can I access training arranged by Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC)?
The Bridgend Social Care Workforce Development Partnership and the Social Care Workforce Development Team (SCWDP) in BCBC work together to develop an annual program. We offer a range of training events in social care for those working with and caring for adults, children, young people their families across the statutory, independent and third sector in Bridgend county borough.
This annual programme provides an overview of the training opportunities that will be available during the year, and is updated as new courses are added.
Carers who support relatives and friends may also be able to join some courses, at no charge.
How do I find out about the courses?
For specific details on courses and information on booking please look on the SCWDP pages of the Bridgend County Borough Council Learning and Development website: http://bridgend.learningpool.com/, click on ‘SCWDP’, then on ‘Adult Social Care’ or ‘Children and Young People’. If you don’t have a computer, you can ask staff at the Bridgend Carer’s Centre to help.
What if I need a course that isn’t on the programme?
We also arrange courses specifically for carers, such as in moving and handling, welfare benefits, first aid, providing that enough people are able to attend. You can discuss this with us, or with staff at the Bridgend Carer’s Centre.
What if the person I care for can’t be left alone?
BCBC will consider requests for additional care & support for people who need it, so that you can attend training.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible to attend a training event:
- you need to be a carer living in the Bridgend area
- are requesting training that supports your caring role
